Starting at 3:30 in the morning, Kudla – McDonald meet for the fifth time, but this time in the semifinals of the Dallas tournament which is endowed with $ 125,000 prizes.
Denis Kudla is the 162th ATP and the best position was 53 ATP in May 2016. He is a right-handed player and his backhand struck him with both hands. Denis started playing tennis at the age of seven and went to the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park where he was coached by Frank Salazar. Given that he is American, Denis Kudla has the hard surface as favorite surface, so the best results of his career are right on this surface. Kudla has won 7 Challenger and Itf titles in his career since 2010, and most recently he came to Ilkley on the grass in 2015. This year Kudla raised his game at the Australian Open, where he managed to pass the qualifiers and they reach up to the main board. In the first round on the main board he defeated Steve Johnson 3-1 after a very good game made by Kudla, in which he offered only 4 break points. In Tour 2 was defeated by Dominic Thiem after leading 2-0 to sets, the physical condition left him and so he lost the next 3 sets. Also, in this Dallas tour Denis Kudla came to the semifinal without losing any sets, after defeating Kypson, Tommy Paul and Fritz.
McDonald is a young 22-year-old American who occupies 158th ATP and this is the best ranking for him. Also, this year he started very well, succeeding to pass the qualifiers of the Australian Open tournament after defeating Rubin, Kovalik and Robert in qualifying. In first round of the AO, McDonald met Elias Ymer, which he defeated in 4 sets. In Round 2 he lost 3-2 with Grigor Dimitrov, but American McDonald made the best career match because in the 4th set he won 6-0 with Dimitrov. At this Dallas tournament McDonald defeated Ito, Tiafoe and Smyczek, losing just one set to this semifinal with Denis Kudla.
In conclusion, given that there are 2 players who have raised their level of play in 2018, I expect a tight match, so my predictions for Kudla – McDonald will be bellow.
Predictions: Kudla wins at least one set, odds 1.45
Stake: 5 units
